Whiskey at daybreak beside a lake submitted 2012.08.01 03:06 AM by Willis viewed 2112 times

Brain follows the sniffer
sweet honey of whiskey straight
I smell upwards through the bottle's throat

A kingfisher dives into the water
ten million minnows flee away,
water ripples
in the distance behind the violence of kingfishers and minnows
the sound of a dog

And the breeze is cool,
a sweetgum blazes in this fall
what I pray is please bear this sweet honey of whiskey straight
even though the ripples encircle the brain,
with small skirmishes upon waters
bearing in this new light -
remember the things that blaze in gold and are good
like whiskey against my
tongue
